Excluding the arcade version, Ford Competition is a game mode in Single Player where the player can participate in different types of competitions of specific vehicle classes. It is one of the most important game modes, the other being Ford Challenge, as it consists of fifty percent of the overall game progress.
In each competition, the player must place in third place or better in the overall results to unlock the vehicles, the racetracks and the race types involved, as well as any subsequent competitions. The livery packs for certain vehicles can only be unlocked by placing in second place or better, and the competition cup can only be unlocked by placing in first place. Subsequently, completing all competitions by placing in third place or better will grant the Ford Competition Trophy. After collecting the rewards, the player can use them in Ford Collection mode.
In the PC, PS2, Xbox and DS versions, there are a total of fourteen competitions in this mode, whereas in the GBA version, there are a total of eleven competitions.
